Allen sits in Collin County, with US 75 running through it and State Highway 121 along its western edge. SH 121 runs west from there through Plano and Frisco, and Preston Road (SH 289) runs past our address.
Sleep care is a sequence, not a single visit
Most sleep care unfolds across several appointments: an evaluation, then testing, then starting treatment, then at least one visit to confirm the treatment is doing what it should. An adjustment often follows.
It helps to know that at the start. The first visit is the beginning of a plan, and we would rather set that expectation clearly than have it come as a surprise later.
Sleep evaluation and what follows it
Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common reason patients are referred to us, and home sleep apnea testing is often the right first test. It is not always. Central sleep apnea, significant heart or lung disease, and suspected narcolepsy are among the situations better answered by an in-lab study, and choosing well at the start can spare you repeating the process.
Where PAP therapy is started, follow-up covers whether it is being tolerated, whether the pressure suits you, and whether the symptoms that prompted the referral have improved. Persistent tiredness on well-used CPAP is a finding worth investigating, not a failure of effort.
Breathing and lung concerns
Asthma, COPD, chronic cough, abnormal chest imaging and unexplained shortness of breath are evaluated with pulmonary function testing, and with whatever additional studies the specific question calls for.
What to expect at a first visit
