Pulmonary, Sleep and Weight Management Care for Patients from Plano

A specialty practice in Frisco, on the Preston Road corridor that runs north from Plano.

Pulmonary medicine, sleep medicine and medical weight management are all cared for at VitalAir Sleep and Lung Center, a single clinic in Frisco, Texas, by one physician. Patients from Plano are welcome here.

Those three areas are held together because, in patients, they meet each other constantly. This page describes what that looks like in practice, and where to find us.

How Plano connects to our Frisco clinic

Preston Road, State Highway 289, runs north out of Plano and through Frisco, past our address at 5899 Preston Road. The Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH 121) connects the two cities as well, and the Dallas North Tollway serves Frisco from the west.

Three specialties that meet in the same patient

Someone referred for daytime sleepiness may turn out to have obstructive sleep apnea, and weight may be part of what is contributing to it. Treating the apnea can change how a person feels and functions; addressing weight can reduce the severity of the apnea. Excess weight also changes lung mechanics in ways that can show up on breathing tests.

Holding all three questions in one practice means they can be considered together, and a change in one can be accounted for in the others.

Pulmonary medicine

Asthma and severe asthma, COPD and emphysema, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, pulmonary nodules and abnormal chest imaging, chronic cough, and breathlessness that has not yet been explained. Evaluation may include pulmonary function testing, diffusion capacity, FeNO testing where airway inflammation is the question, and review of prior imaging.

Sleep medicine

Obstructive and central sleep apnea, insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, restless legs syndrome, parasomnias, and the disorders of excessive daytime sleepiness, including narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia. Home sleep apnea testing and in-lab polysomnography are both used, chosen by what the clinical question calls for.

Where PAP therapy is started, we follow it: whether it is comfortable, whether the settings suit you, and whether the symptoms that brought you in have improved. Someone using CPAP faithfully who still feels tired has something left to work out, and it is worth the time to find it.

Weight and metabolic medicine

Physician-supervised weight management, including current medication options, approached as care for a long-term condition. The clinical interest here is specifically where weight meets breathing and sleep.
